Persons illegally bringing in undercooked game, meat, poultry and eggs will be prosecuted
As the new Huanggang Port will commence operation on October 12, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (October 10) reminded members of the public again not to illegally bring regulated foods such as undercooked game, meat, poultry and eggs into Hong Kong, regardless of the boundary control point used upon return. According to the Imported Game, Meat, Poultry and Eggs Regulations (Cap. 132AK), all imported game, meat, poultry and eggs, whether for personal use or not, must be accompanied by a health certificate issued by the issuing entity of the place of origin or written permission from the FEHD. Any person bringing the aforesaid regulated foods into Hong Kong from the Mainland must provide a health certificate issued by Mainland Customs along with the goods. Any offender shall be liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $50,000 and imprisonment for six months. In 2025, the CFS initiated prosecutions in a total of 2 148 cases, including cases that resulted in custodial sentences.
