What is an economic calendar?

An economic calendar lists the dates and times at which central banks, governments and statistics agencies publish the decisions and figures markets react to — interest rates, inflation, employment, growth — alongside the scheduled results of large listed companies.

Traders use it to know when volatility is coming. Newsrooms, analysts and communications teams use it to plan coverage before the numbers land, because the official release behind each event is published at a set time.

How to read this calendar

  • Time — the scheduled publication time in UTC. An entry without a time is a day-long event, or one whose hour is not fixed.
  • Impact — one to five bars, PPN World's editorial estimate of how far the event can move markets. Five is kept for days like a Federal Reserve decision, US inflation or the US jobs report; the red rule marks four and five.
  • To be confirmed — the date is announced but not yet confirmed by the organiser. Each entry opens to its own page with a link to the official source.

The events that move markets

  • Central bank decisions — the Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank, the Bank of England, the Bank of Japan, the Bank of Canada and their peers set interest rates on published schedules.
  • Inflation, jobs and growth — consumer price indices, employment reports and GDP estimates, published by statistics agencies at a fixed hour.
  • Energy — weekly crude inventories, OPEC meetings and the monthly oil market reports that set the tone for prices.
  • Earnings — the quarterly results of the largest listed companies, which move their sectors as well as their own shares.

Where it comes from

This page is the market slice of PPN World's World Agenda — about 900 dated events checked against official calendars (central banks, statistics agencies, company investor pages) and corrected when a date moves. It is curated, not exhaustive: the major set pieces, not every indicator. Inside PPN World the whole agenda sits beside the live wire, filterable by country and exportable to your calendar, and the release behind each event lands in the feed as it is published.

Questions

What time zone is this economic calendar in?

UTC. 12:30 UTC is 8:30 a.m. in New York in summer and 7:30 a.m. in winter; in Paris it is 2:30 p.m. in summer and 1:30 p.m. in winter.

What does the market impact score mean?

It is PPN World's editorial estimate, from 1 to 5, of how far an event can move markets. Federal Reserve decisions and the main US data releases score highest; the other big central banks follow.

How often is the calendar updated?

The page refreshes every 15 minutes from the World Agenda, where dates are checked against official calendars and corrected when an organiser moves one.

Is this every economic indicator?

No. It is a curated calendar of the major scheduled events — central banks, headline data, energy reports and the largest earnings — not a list of every statistical release.

Can I add these events to my own calendar?

Yes, from inside PPN World: the World Agenda exports to .ics for Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar, and filters by country.
