Hong Kong Customs yesterday (October 7) and today (October 8) detected two drug trafficking cases involving incoming passengers at Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 2 kilograms of suspected cocaine and about 5.2kg of suspected cannabis buds, with a total estimated market value of about $2.55 million. In the first case, a 24-year-old Mainland male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Penang, Malaysia, yesterday. During customs clearance, Customs officers found about 2kg of suspected cocaine inside his carry-on baggage. He was subsequently arrested. In the second case, a 55-year-old Mainland female passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Bangkok, Thailand, today. During customs clearance, Customs officers found about 5.2kg of suspected cannabis buds inside her carry-on baggage. She was subsequently arrested. The arrested persons in the two cases have been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug respectively. The two cases will be brought up at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (October 9).
