HKFA's "Close Encounters with Master Filmmakers: Movie Talks" explores humanistic cinematic works of director Jacob Cheung (with photos)

The Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) will present the third edition of the programme series "Close Encounters with Master Filmmakers: Movie Talks" in November, screening six of Jacob Cheung's classic films selected by the director himself. Cheung will attend post-screening talks to share his creative journey alongside film critic Thomas Shin, cinematographer Wong Ping-hung, and screenwriter Polly Yeung. The screening programme is part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the HKFA. In the 1980s, Cheung made a strong directorial debut with "Lai Shi, China's Last Eunuch" (1988), a critical and commercial success, before following it up with "Beyond the Sunset" (1989), which won the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Film and Best Screenplay. The selected films vary in subject matter and technique, but are all filled with Cheung's sense of humanistic care.
