Civilian Service: Daycare Staff Awarded Meritorious Civilian Service Medal for Life-Saving Actions

Four staff members at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton’s Courteau Child Development Center received the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, the third-highest honorary award for Department of the Navy civilian employees, Oct. 23, 2026, in recognition of their actions and courage in a life-threatening medical emergency involving a two-year-old child. The award recognizes civilian employees whose contributions provide significant value to the Navy or Marine Corps. For Training and Curriculum Specialist Olivia Carmona, Program Assistants Honey L. Smith and Yvette J. Alarcon, and Center Director Kim C. Hopkins, their recognition reflects decisive actions, composure and teamwork in a moment when every second mattered.
