National Physician Assistant (PA) Week (Oct. 6-12): Airman, Soldier graduate from IPAP, join ranks of force multipliers
An Airman and Soldier became military medicine’s newest force multipliers of readiness with their graduation from the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) Phase 2 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Oct. 2. The physician assistant profession has its roots in military medicine, with the first graduates from a PA program, on Oct. 6, 1967, at Duke University in North Carolina, consisting of three former Navy hospital corpsmen. Oct. 6-12 is now annually celebrated as National Physician Assistant (PA) Week to highlight the vital contributions, healthcare access, and team-based patient care provided by PAs.
