New Chief Commoner elected for City
Members of the City of London Corporation have elected a new holder of one of the Square Mile’s oldest and most distinguished civic offices. Deputy Deborah Oliver TD has been elected by fellow Members of the Court of Common Council – the City of London Corporation’s primary decision-making body – to serve as Chief Commoner. The holder of the office, which dates back over 500 years, acts as a representative and ambassador for the Court of Common Council, supports Members in their duties and helps to uphold the traditions, standards and values of the City Corporation. Deputy Oliver will succeed the current Chief Commoner, Philip Woodhouse, and will take up the post in spring 2027 for a one-year term.
