Carlo Comporti appointed Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority 09 October 2026 About ESMA Board of Supervisors Management Board Press Releases The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s financial markets regulator and supervisor, is pleased to announce that Carlo Comporti has been appointed as its next Chair. The appointment was confirmed by the Council of the European Union at its meeting today in Brussels. Mr Comporti will take up his position on 1 November 2026. Verena Ross, current ESMA Chair, said: “It is a pleasure to welcome Carlo as the new Chair of ESMA. Together with the Board of Supervisors, I wish Carlo all the best in his new position. He brings decades of experience in European financial markets regulation and knows ESMA well.
