Fort Greely team builds mobile ‘shop-in-a-box’ for Arctic repairs
The Logistics Readiness Center Greely Maintenance Division at Fort Greely, Alaska, developed a mobile, multifunctional repair trailer to improve maintenance capabilities in extreme Arctic conditions. Built for $9,930, the “shop-in-a-box” combines welding, cutting, compressed air, generator power and heating equipment, allowing maintainers to repair heavy machinery at remote locations without costly transportation or disassembly. The locally designed platform has already reduced equipment downtime and returned critical assets to service the same day. The innovation also offers potential applications in emergency response and disaster recovery, demonstrating how workforce ingenuity and responsible resource management contribute to operational readiness.
