Panama earthquake: Red Cross Society of Panama and IFRC mobilise to deliver humanitarian assistance lea.salwan Sat, 10/10/2026 - 17:42 Panama City/Geneva, 10 October 2026 – Following the magnitude 7,2 earthquake that struck the country’s Pacific coast on Friday, the Red Cross Society of Panama has mobilised its staff and volunteers to deliver humanitarian assistance to the hardest-hit communities and support response efforts, prioritising first aid, psychosocial support and needs assessments. Since the first hours of the emergency, the National Society’s branches and teams have been verifying information, assessing damage and assisting people at locations across the country. This work aims to identify the needs of those affected and contribute to a response coordinated with the authorities and first responders. To support and scale up the Red Cross Society of Panama’s efforts, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has made its global response mechanisms available.
