Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on College Avenue
Winnipeg, MB – At 12:50 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a duplex in the 400 block of College Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the building. Firefighters entered and launched an interior fire attack. They declared the fire under control at 1:15 p.m. All occupants of the building evacuated prior to the arrival of emergency crews. Paramedics assessed one person at the scene, but the individual did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported. Firefighters located several cats in the building and brought them to safety. The City's Emergency Social Services team attended to support residents displaced by the fire. Damage estimates are not available. Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental, caused by unattended cooking. To help prevent kitchen fires, residents should: Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Keep oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels, and curtains away from the stovetop. Heat oil slowly. If cooking oil catches fire and the fire is small and manageable, use a kitchen fire extinguisher or cover the top with a metal lid. Nev
