National Clean Energy Week - September 15 through 19 WHEREAS, Maine is committed to advancing an affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy future and enjoys abundant forms of renewable energy that power homes and businesses across the State; and WHEREAS, clean energy sources including solar, wind, hydropower, and biomass facilities provide cost-effective power to Maine and the region; and WHEREAS, the generation of power from renewable sources, including forms such as hydro, wood, wind, and solar, accounts for 54 percent of net electricity generation in Maine; and WHEREAS, Maine has increased its Renewable Portfolio Standard to 90 percent by 2040 and adopted a complementary Clean Energy Standard to reach 100 percent clean energy by 2040; and WHEREAS, Maine leads New England in wind-powered generation, and ranks eleventh in the country in its share of electricity generated from wind; and WHEREAS, in 2024, hydroelectric power generated nearly 20 percent of the electricity in Maine, and Maine ranked ninth in the nation for hydropower production as a share of total energy generated; and WHEREAS, Maine’s more than 16,000 clean energy jobs grow local economies and boost economic developme
