Weathering the Storm – Hurlburt Field's response to Hurricane Isaias
HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. — As Hurricane Isaias approached Florida's Gulf Coast, Air Commandos at Hurlburt Field moved aircraft out of the storm's path, secured critical facilities and positioned teams to restore the installation, protecting personnel while preserving the wing's ability to deliver special operations airpower. In a few days, Team Hurlburt executed an installation-wide hurricane response plan and behind every fueled generator, secured facility and evacuated aircraft stood a team of Air Commandos working around the clock across six phases: preparation, evacuation, ride out, assessments, repairs and return to base. Hurricane Isaias made landfall on Oct 9, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m. near Destin, Florida, approximately 50 miles from the installation, with sustained winds recorded up to 105 mph.
