38th DIVARTY welcomes Schoettmer as new commander during change of command ceremony

U.S. Army Col. Matthew Schoettmer assumed command of the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 38th Division Artillery from Col. Jonathan Gocke during a change of command ceremony in Louisville, Kentucky, Sept. 13, 2026. Gocke led the 38th DIVARTY through two years of growth that included increased personnel strength, the addition of subordinate battalions and the unit’s move to its permanent headquarters in Louisville. Schoettmer takes charge of the multi-state formation with a focus on building readiness for large-scale combat operations in support of the 38th Infantry Division.
