BS27-1: Joint tactical fuel system
U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron and U.S. Marines assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron-172 established a joint tactical fuel system using both Air Force and Marine Corps contingency equipment during Exercise Beverly Sword 27-1 at Kadena Air Base, Japan, Oct. 28, 2026. During the exercise scenario, Airmen and Marines constructed an above-ground fuel storage system on Kadena’s airfield capable of sustaining aircraft fuel and flight operations in austere environments. The tactical fuel site extends the carrying capacity of the R-11 fuel trucks 6,000-gallons to the Marine Corps 20,000-gallon fuel bladder capacity.
