Guard joins FOUND Project to honor veterans’ service
ARDMORE, Okla. – Oklahoma National Guard members helped to honor three unaccompanied veterans during a committal service held at the Seaman First Class Billy Turner Veterans Cemetery in Ardmore, Okla., Oct. 22, 2026. Members of the 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry Regiment conducted roll call and read the veterans’ biographies during the ceremony, held through the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs’ FOUND Project, an initiative to identify unclaimed veterans’ remains and provide burial with military honors. “It is a sobering reminder of how brief life is,” said Master Sgt. Corey Simmons, operations noncommissioned officer for 1st Battalion, 180th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard. “Organizations like the FOUND Project ensure that no matter where life leads us, every veteran is remembered with dignity and honored in the end.”
