Detroit Arsenal Solar Project Enhances Energy Resilience
DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. – U.S. Army Garrison Detroit Arsenal completed the installation of a new 192-module, roof-mounted solar array on Building 229 in May 2026, marking a key milestone in the installation’s ongoing energy resilience and infrastructure modernization efforts. Executed through a strategic Capital Improvement Repair and Maintenance Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA-CIRM) with the neighboring city of Center Line, Michigan, the $347,000 project is projected to generate 101,598 kilowatt-hours of alternating current (AC) power annually. The Building 229 project represents the first completed solar installation under the collaborative agreement. The garrison has finalized designs for two additional roof-mounted solar arrays on Building 203 and Building 231, which are projected to bring the installation’s combined solar output to a minimum of 482 kilowatts of direct current (DC) output and more than 534,000 kilowatt-hours of AC power annually. The initiative serves as part three of an ongoing series highlighting Detroit Arsenal's regional municipal partnerships to enhance garrison modernization.
