A New Chapter For Lake Wheeler Road Tiffanie.Mazan… Fri, 09/04/2026 - 10:51 Primary Image Big improvements are coming to Lake Wheeler Road, but to complete the improvements, we need to close part of the road to through traffic. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, you will not be able to travel Lake Wheeler Road between Goode Street and Umstead Drive. There will be construction activity along sections of Lake Wheeler Road for two years. The good news is - detours are in place, and you can still get to Dix Park and the Farmer’s Market, and residents and businesses will have access to their properties. Once the project is done, this section of Lake Wheeler Road will have: New sidewalks Bike paths Stormwater infrastructure Roundabouts to help slow traffic Other safety and street improvements We understand this will be an inconvenience to residents, businesses, and visitors, but we will work throughout the construction process to minimize these inconveniences.
