Governor Abbott Appoints Peters To 492nd Judicial District In Colorado And Lavaca Counties Governor Greg Abbott appointed Leonard Peters as Judge of the 492nd Judicial District Court in Colorado and Lavaca Counties, effective September 1, 2026, for a term set to expire December 31, 2028, or until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified. Leonard Peters of Columbus is a municipal judge with the City of Columbus and an attorney with Peters and Peters Law Firm, PLLC. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Colorado County Bar Association. Additionally, he is a member and past president of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, an attorney with the Colorado County Habitat for Humanity, and a trustee with the First Baptist Church of Columbus. Leonard received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Juris Doctor from the University of Houston, as well as his peace officer’s license from the Texas A&M Police Academy.
