Labour productivity, hourly compensation and unit labour cost, second quarter 2026

The labour productivity of Canadian businesses increased 1.0% in the second quarter, the largest increase since the rise in the second quarter of 2020 (+7.7%), induced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The increase in the second quarter of 2026 resulted from a rise in the value added in the business sector, while hours worked decreased.
