Likt filtsjöpungen kan den breda ut sig över botten, lokalt slå ut inhemska arter och förändra ekosystem. Nu undersöker Länsstyrelsen området för att se om det är möjligt att begränsa vidare spridning. – Den är mycket invasiv och kan liksom sin släkting filtsjöpung breda ut sig som en matta över botten och tränga undan andra arter. Om den sprider sig kan den förstöra de lokala ekosystemen, säger Anna Dimming, marinbiolog och samordnare för invasiva vattenlevande arter på Länsstyrelsen Västra Götaland. I förra veckan kom en rapport om ett misstänkt fynd från en uppmärksam privatperson som gått på en flytbrygga i Lysekils norra hamn. Länsstyrelsen tog kontakt med Havets Hus som snabbt kunde samla in prover. DNA-analys visar att det är arten Botrylloides violaceus .
