Urban Consumer Confidence Survey

Today, the Reserve Bank released the results of September 2026 round of its bi-monthly urban consumer confidence survey (UCCS) 1 . The survey collects current perceptions (vis-à-vis a year ago) and one year ahead expectations of households on general economic situation, employment scenario, overall price situation, own income and spending. The survey was conducted during September 10-20, 2026, covering 6,054 respondents across 19 major cities. Highlights: Households’ confidence for the current period moved marginally with the Current Situation Index (CSI) 2 at 87.9 from 88.3 in the previous round ( Chart 1 ). Consumer optimism for the year ahead remained in positive terrain, albeit with slight moderation in the Future Expectations Index (FEI) ( Chart 1 ). The consumer sentiments are optimistic on income and spending amid some concerns regarding economic situation, employment and prices going forward ( Tables 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 and 6 ).
