Pro-Chancellor of Hong Kong Metropolitan University appointed

The Government announced today (October 9) that the Chief Executive, in his capacity as the Chancellor of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), has accepted the recommendation of the HKMU Council and appointed Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam as the Pro-Chancellor of the HKMU with effect from November 1, 2026, for a term of three years. The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, welcomed the appointment. "Mr Wong is a well-respected community leader and has been devoted to public services. He was first appointed to the HKMU Council as a member in 2008 and subsequently served as the Treasurer of the Council from 2009 to 2014, the Deputy Chairman from 2014 to 2016, and the Chairman from 2016 to 2022. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership in advancing the university's development into a full-fledged comprehensive university in Hong Kong. I am confident that with Mr Wong's wealth of experience, he will lead the HKMU Court to continue providing insightful advice for the HKMU's long-term development," she said.
