The City of Helsinki has reviewed the impacts of demolishing and preserving the Vanhankaupunginkoski dam and has commissioned a comparison of the various options. Several council initiatives concerning the demolition of the dam and the restoration of the eastern channel of the rapids have been submitted in recent years. The aim of developing the area is to improve fish passage at Vanhankaupunginkoski rapids.
