Strengthening Italy’s energy security: President Meloni’s video message

Today, we have taken another step forward in strengthening Italy’s energy security. Over these last years, we have diversified supply sources, entered into new agreements with producing countries and strengthened Italy’s role as an energy hub in the Mediterranean. With regard to renewable energy, we have installed approximately 28 extra gigawatts so far, which is three times better than what was done over the same period of time by those who today lecture us about green energy. We have allocated more than EUR 60 billion to safeguard citizens and businesses against high energy prices, increased the ‘social bonus’ and extended it to millions of families and helped both small and large businesses to lower their bills. Moreover, today we have further extended the cut in fuel duties to keep petrol and diesel costs under control, ahead of new measures that are coming next week. However, this is of course not enough; we need to do more, to build structural and long-term solutions.
