La nueva infraestructura reforzará la capacidad de cálculo del Centro de Supercomputación de Euskadi La inversión permitirá responder a la creciente demanda de la comunidad científica El Consejo de Gobierno, a propuesta del Departamento de Ciencia, Universidades e Innovación, ha aprobado la concesión de una ayuda de 900.000 euros a la Fundación Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) para impulsar la puesta en marcha del supercomputador Atenea y reforzar las capacidades del Centro de Supercomputación de Euskadi. Desde 2019, el Centro de Supercomputación funciona como una infraestructura vasca abierta y ofrece recursos de computación de altas prestaciones a toda la Red Vasca de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación (RVCTI), que agrupa a centros de investigación y tecnológicos del País Vasco, así como a otras instituciones científicas vascas sin ánimo de lucro. Sus superordenadores permiten realizar simulaciones y cálculos complejos en ámbitos como los materiales avanzados, la física fundamental, la neurociencia, la genética, el cambio climático y la inteligencia artificial.
