London parks on high alert as fifth summer heat warning issued

London’s major parks providers have renewed their call for people to enjoy the capital’s green spaces safely during the heat. The City of London Corporation, The Royal Parks, The National Trust, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Crystal Palace Park and Parks for London are joining forces to urge visitors to take care in hot, dry conditions. The latest amber alert follows a summer of repeated extreme heat episodes, with London's open spaces experiencing sustained dry conditions and heightened wildfire risk. Visitors are being urged to protect themselves, others, and the environment during continued hot, dry weather by: · Never lighting barbecues or fires, disposing cigarettes safely, and taking litter home or using bins provided · Keeping out of un-lifeguarded lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and other open water where swimming is prohibited.
