Police use intelligence to target drug trafficking through Operation Guardian
We have seized more than $350,000 worth of drugs as part of an ongoing operation that is targeting drug and firearms activity throughout Calgary. In September 2026, our Organized Crime Enforcement Unit (OCEU) and Strategic Data Integration and Intelligence Analytical Unit (SDIIAU) worked together to develop Operation Guardian. Operation Guardian uses geospatial analysis and crime data to detect areas where drug and firearms activity is increasing relative to historical patterns, resulting in early criminal hot spot detection. Officers within OCEU use this analysis to deploy to these areas to disrupt criminal activity, collect intelligence and conduct investigations and enforcement. Since the operation launched on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, these intelligence-led insights have resulted in 67 traffic stops, four separate drug trafficking investigations, five arrests and 17 charges. In total, we have seized: 3.18 kilograms of fentanyl 175.5 grams of powder cocaine 66.2 grams of crack cocaine 701 fentanyl pills More than $12,000 in cash Photos of some of the seized items are available at The City of Calgary Newsroom. As part of our investigations, five people have been charged: Trevor
