Mozambique: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) calls for respect for health facilities after attack on health centre

On Monday 21 September, during an attack on the village of Quelimane, in the district of Mocímboa da Praia, in the province of Cabo Delgado, the local health centre supported by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was looted, and essential medicines and medical equipment were stolen. "Attacks on and looting of health facilities, as well as the theft of medicines and medical equipment, are having devastating consequences for communities already facing extreme vulnerability due to conflict and displacement. People with chronic diseases such as HIV/TB, hypertension or diabetes have their treatment interrupted, putting their lives at risk. Health care must remain accessible to all, including people living in areas affected by conflict or insecurity." Pooja Iyer, MSF's general coordinator in Mozambique.
