Interagency Partnership Drives Full-Scale Mass Casualty Readiness Training in Southern Maryland
First responders from across St. Mary’s County, the Maryland State Police, and Naval District Washington Fire and Emergency Services came together for a full-scale Active Assailant Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) exercise at Spring Ridge Middle School in Lexington Park, Maryland, over the weekend. The extensive drill tested unified command, multi-channel emergency communications, and county-wide triage and transport procedures. Volunteering as moulaged simulated patients with scripted clinical progressions, five hospital corpsmen from Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Patuxent River experienced the exercise from the patient’s perspective and provided helpful, ground-level feedback alongside their civilian counterparts for the exercise's after-action report.
