Army National Guard expands Weekend Drill Child Care Program
For U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Amber Peck, finding reliable child care became one of the greatest challenges of serving in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. As a co-parent in a dual-military family, overlapping drill weekends often meant scrambling to find childcare for her daughter, sometimes relying on relatives or even flying a family member in from Puerto Rico. “I felt like I was constantly pressuring my family for help, not receiving it, and feeling like I'd rather just not be in the military because it was such a consistent burden that I simply had no fix for,” Peck said. She added that the recurring challenge eventually made her question whether she could continue her military career.
