Team Eglin sustains operations through Hurricane Isaias
EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Inside Eglin Hospital, the 96th Medical Group labor and delivery teams prepared to welcome the installation’s newest family members as Hurricane Isaias churned toward the Florida Panhandle. First Lt. Jordanne Servo arranged care at home for her two young children and puppy before reporting for duty. Her partner returned from an offshore oil platform for 24 hours to prepare their home before heading back into the Gulf. Servo, an obstetric nurse for the 96th Medical Group’s Maternal Child Inpatient Flight, cared for mothers and newborns while helping patients feel safe. “Even though we couldn’t control what was going on outside, we could control the quality of care and compassion given to create a positive and meaningful birth experience,” Servo said. Others across Eglin balanced similar responsibilities at work and home. Throughout the hurricane cycle, airmen and civilian personnel secured multi-million dollar aircraft, anchored coastal facilities and kept essential lifelines running – all while managing the safety of their families at home. Once Isaias passed, those same teams cleared debris and paved the way for returning operations.
