Court Sides with Attorney General Bonta in RealPage Case, Denies RealPage and Landlords’ Attempt to Evade Responsibility in Rent Pricing Lawsuit
October 2, 2026 Contact: (916) 210-6000, agpressoffice@doj.ca.gov OAKLAND — California Attorney General Rob Bonta and a bipartisan coalition of nine states celebrated a decision of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, ruling in favor of the coalition, refusing to let landlords out of the case, and denying software company RealPage’s attempt to have the ongoing rent-pricing algorithm case against the company thrown out. In 2024, Attorney General Bonta, the U.S. Department of Justice, and a coalition of states sued RealPage, alleging that the software company used landlords’ competitively sensitive data to create a pricing algorithm that violated antitrust laws.
