IFRC mourns the passing of Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen joe.baaklini Sun, 10/04/2026 - 16:17 Geneva, 4 October 2026 - The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) mourns, with profound sadness, the sudden and tragic passing of our colleague and friend, Birgitte Bischoff Ebbesen, the IFRC’s Regional Director for Europe. Birgitte died on 3 October 2026 following a sudden and wholly unexpected medical episode. Her passing is a devastating shock to all who knew her. Our deepest condolences are with her family and with her many friends and colleagues around the world. “Birgitte was an extraordinary leader whose impact extended far beyond the IFRC and across the global humanitarian community.
