EUMETSAT will be joined in the organisation and hosting of the event by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). The main theme of the 2027 conference is “From new operational satellites to societal impact: exploiting EUMETSAT and partner observations for a changing Earth system”. 2026 summer weather featured severe wildfires, long-lasting heatwaves and a remarkable number of extreme weather events, demonstrating both the vulnerability of our planet to climate change as well as the relevance of satellite data to monitor, forecast, and prepare society for a changing Earth system.
