Five people charged in downtown drug trafficking investigation
We have charged five people following an investigation into the sale of illicit drugs to members of vulnerable populations, in downtown Calgary. As part of our Safer Calgary – Operation Restore initiative’s commitment to address crime and social disorder downtown and along transit lines, our officers continue to target drug trafficking across the city. Over a two-week span in October, officers observed multiple transactions where suspects appeared to be selling drugs, including crack cocaine and crystal methamphetamine, to unhoused people in areas where they are known to congregate. As a result, five people were arrested and are now facing a total of 30 charges. 15 outstanding criminal warrants were also executed. Among items seized were weapons, including bear spray and a baton, as well as cash, cell phones, a digital scale, crack cocaine and methamphetamine. Robert William ANDERSON, 55, of Calgary, is charged with: - Two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking - One count of fraud under $5,000 - One count of possession of contraband tobacco - One count of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 - Failing to comply with a release order Lo
