Kenya: Healing Hands in Lamu

A multi-agency medical outreach in Lamu has brought essential healthcare services closer to the community, with 323 residents receiving treatment, screening and medical advice. The Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) medical outreach brought together the Kenya Navy medical team from Manda Trauma Centre, US Civil Affairs, Lamu County Healthcare Team and the Kenya Red Cross to provide healthcare services to residents. KDF troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) provided security throughout the exercise, creating a safe environment for both medical teams and members of the community seeking treatment. From the early hours, residents turned up in large numbers to access the services offered by the medical teams. The teams attended to a range of conditions, including upper respiratory tract infections, skin conditions, ear, nose and throat ailments, dental problems and urinary tract infections. The outreach also provided screening and management of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
