District of Columbia National Guard celebrates Command Senior Enlisted Leader retirement and Change of Responsibility
District of Columbia National Guard held a change of responsibility and retirement ceremony at the D.C. Armory, honoring Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald Smith Jr. after more than 37 years of military service and welcoming Chief Master Sgt. Anthony Sims as the new Command Senior Enlisted Leader. Brig. Gen. Leland D. Blanchard highlighted the importance of leadership transitions, while Smith reflected on his extensive career, deployments, and commitment to developing Soldiers and strengthening the force. Smith was recognized with numerous awards, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal, and expressed gratitude to his family and support network for helping him throughout his career.
