Detroit Arsenal Upgrades Its Armor With 3D-Printed Building Overclad
The Detroit Arsenal is piloting a pioneering facility modernization project that uses state-of-the-art 3D-printing technology to install a high-efficiency exterior "armor" around its buildings. The project, funded through the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), is demonstrating a novel approach to facility upgrades. By deploying 3D-printed, mass-customizable wall panels to overclad existing facilities, the Army aims to slash building heating and cooling energy consumption by more than 65 percent.
