The Heartbeat of the Missile Field
F.E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. - From the outside, a missile alert facility (MAF) can appear almost tranquil. Scattered across the remote reaches of Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska, these facilities are surrounded by the quiet of the Great Plains. But beneath that quiet is a mission that never stops, and a facility manager responsible for keeping the site, its people and its systems ready. For facility managers, that means solving problems, maintaining critical systems, supporting the people at the site and ensuring the facility remains operational 24/7/365. It requires technical knowledge, independence and adaptability. For one F.E. Warren Air Force Base facility manager, however, the job has ultimately become about more than maintaining a building. It is about taking care of people.
