Air University takes drone testing to Maxwell airfield
Air University personnel, technology developers and 42d Air Base Wing Airmen conducted unmanned aircraft systems testing Oct. 6-8, 2026, at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, to evaluate drone capabilities and improve installation defense against emerging unmanned aircraft threats. The event incorporated artificial intelligence, coordinated flight operations and security forces assessments of their ability to detect and identify small unmanned aircraft systems. The effort, supported by BESPIN and Rownd, establishes a foundation for continued testing and collaboration between technology developers and installation defenders to address evolving operational challenges and protect the installations required to generate combat power.
