Wasp Lights Off Boilers
USS Wasp’s Engineering Department successfully lit off its forward and aft boilers in September 2026, marking a major milestone after 13 months in shipyard maintenance. The boiler light-off process required extensive coordination, technical expertise, and teamwork to bring the ship’s steam plant and supporting systems back online. Wasp’s two main boilers and geared steam turbines provide the steam needed for propulsion, electrical power, air conditioning, galley services, and other essential shipboard functions. As Wasp continues steam testing and prepares for hot light-off assessment, dock trials, and fast cruise, its engineering Sailors are helping return the ship to operational readiness.
