AEDC at 75: AEDC continues expansion with addition of NFAC
The same year Arnold Engineering Development Complex celebrates its 75th anniversary marks 20 years since it assumed responsibility of two large wind tunnels situated on the West Coast. In 2006, AEDC accepted management and operation of the 40- by 80-foot and 80- by 120-foot wind tunnels that comprise the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex located at the NASA Ames Research Center on Moffett Field, California. With this, NFAC became the second geographically separated unit of AEDC, headquartered at Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn. The first, Hypervelocity Wind Tunnel 9 in White Oak, Maryland, was transferred to the Air Force and placed under AEDC purview in October 1997.
