Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase I (I·PARK1) resumes operation
The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (October 30) said that the Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase I (I·PARK1) has gradually resumed operation from today. The EPD suspended waste reception at I·PARK1 in view of a fire incident on October 26, with the waste originally destined for I·PARK1 diverted to the West New Territories Landfill for disposal. After comprehensively examining all critical systems in the first and second modules of the facility and confirming that they are safe and suitable for restarting and operation, the EPD is gradually restarting the operation of the two modules from today and is continuing the ongoing system testing and trial operation. The facility has already resumed the reception of waste. During its suspension of waste reception, the city's overall waste management system maintained normal operation. Regarding the third module area where the fire originated, the EPD is conducting a detailed assessment of the damage and its impact on the facility, and will urge the contractor to formulate a recovery plan and conduct repairs as soon as possible.
