Meeting with the President of the Republic of Lithuania

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, at Palazzo Chigi today. The two leaders expressed their satisfaction with the solidity of bilateral relations and agreed on the objective of further strengthening cooperation, with a particular focus on the strategic sectors of defence and energy. The conversation provided an opportunity to discuss the main priorities on the EU agenda, also ahead of the forthcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, starting with the strengthening of Europe’s competitiveness and industrial base as well as the need to structurally reduce energy costs for households and businesses. The importance was stressed of a Multiannual Financial Framework that is adequate for the Union’s ambitions, providing sufficient resources for both new strategic priorities and traditional policies, starting with cohesion and agriculture.
